Versatile Chanel

Hello Internets!

I am extraordinarily happy to be back blogging ^_^ back to indulging in all thing sartorial. I am aiming for the posts here at fashionaddictedtechie to be short and sweet, so for today we have the Chanel RTW Fall 2011 collection. Shown a few months ago in Paris, I reckon if I had to describe this particular endeavour of Mr Lagerfeld in one word, that word would be 'versatile'. See for yourself...

A classic Chanel jacket worn over a dusty black men's tuxedo, and shoes that look like you really could walk 500 miles in. Love.

I just like the idea that Chanel is fashion, and then all other details of your outfit can/should reflect your own personal style. Like, if you wear just one bit of Chanel - a jacket or a crisp white shirt, plus boots from Target and and op-shop-sourced black wide-legged pants a-la Audrey Hepburn, then I think it just takes the impact of the word 'style' to another level, you know? I mean OF COURSE you can be stylish and not be out of pocket more than $50, and I also know that brand name clothes do not automatically equal style, class or elegance.

But the idea of couture - something that is made to your specifications, from the fit to the colour, is a luxury. Therefore, to be able to mix that luxury item with other clothes so nonchalantly is (if I lived in my dream world and could afford couture) my favourite kind of style ^_^

Grunge... again? Le sigh.

So, it has been nearly a year since I've posted anything on this blog. This semester will probably be my last for a while. I'll come out with my Cert IV in Network Security and I'll be free! Free to work, that is. But I've always enjoyed a working life more than a student life. Therefore, let's get back to it! The Spring/Summer shows (I know, I know, I'm a few months behind in my reporting... but over there they've just gone into autumn and already they want to tell you what to wear in 9 months time?!?! Guess that's just the way the industry works) seemed, well, grungy.

Getting to google - the smart-arse way!

Impress your friends and intimidate your enemies! Yes, we all know that to get to just about any popular website you can just type 'google' or 'nytimes' or whatever your site is called into your mozilla browser and POOF! there it appears. No need even to type in a www. or a .com or a .com.au any more. Magic stuff.

However, have you ever noticed after typing in a page name like 'google', at the bottom of the browser a set of 4 numbers and an address quickly flicker and disappear? (if you don't have a bar at the bottom go to 'View' and tick 'Status Bar'). What's happening is that your browser is querying your Domain Name System Server (usually one of your Internet provider's super-powerful computers) and is asking it 'WTF does 'google' mean? I spreken ze numbers, not ze english!' Because every computer on the Internet is identified by an Internet Protocol address - a set of 4 numbers between 1 & 255 separated by a dot - trying to find out and then remember what all your favourite sites' IP addresses are would be a NIGHTMARE. So your DNS server does the work for you and has a database that resolves words like 'google' to the IP address 66.102.11.104 - which is the super-humungus computer where the google web page is kept.

So, you can just be like everyone else and take the easy way and just type in 'google' or 'nymag', but if you REALLY want to show off, try to memorise (or write on your hand) just one or two IP addresses of your favourite sites, and then when EVERYONE is looking, type the numbers into your browser instead of the name and POOF! your page appears!

To find our your favourite site's IP address, go to Start and search for 'cmd' or the Command Prompt program. Type in 'nslookup', leave a space, then type in your favourite site e.g. www.google.com. Press Enter. You'll get 2 addresses - one is of your address, and the second is your site's address.

Easy as pie, and you look cool and clever infront of the school's gorgeous vice-captain...

First Entry and a new love for Nanette Lapore

YAY! First entry ^_^ Welcome to my first attempt at blogging (well, I did have a teenopendiary account about a million years ago... does that count?) and into my crazy, haphazard world where you'll find rants on just about anything to do with technology and fashion. My name is Sophie Claire and I am currently studying Network Administration at TAFE and learning a WHOLE LOT of weird and wonderful stuff about IT. I'll be using this blog as a depository for all the new terminology, acronyms, cmdlets and all sorts of other techie-related stuff I encounter, as well as for recording my most very favourite fashion finds from the web.

I am hoping that one day I'll be able to use my Cisco certification and go to live in Singapore, New York, London or Paris, and be able to afford all these gorgeous designs and accessories.

So, first up, my new love for the makeup at Nanette Lapore and the chic wearability of Isaac Mizrahi.






Subtle duo-tone lipstick at Nanette Lapore. Some of the models sported more dramatic shades, but I love this combination of the pink & dusty-pink.















I love the PVC-covered shoes. Stylish and practical for both the New York and Adelaide winters ^_^
